A lot of what we usually cover is all about what’s going on in downtown Salt Lake. For many of us, just outside of Salt Lake is where we call home.

Today we’re showing some love to restaurants that aren’t downtown but pack a punch like they are.

La Casa del Tamal

La Casa del Tamal is almost always bustling—and for good reason. It’s easily one of the best dining spots in SL County.

Start with the obvious choice: the tamales. Every variety delivers, filled with tender, well-seasoned meats or fresh veggies wrapped in silky masa. Next, try the tacos de birria con consomé, featuring birria simmered for six hours with a touch of tomato for depth and richness.

The torta cubana is another standout—an indulgent sandwich layered with breaded steak, ham, sausage, eggs, and chorizo. Whatever you order, make sure to add a splash of their house salsas; the smoky red one makes everything even better.

Tuk Tuk’s

For authentic Thai and Lao flavors, Tuk Tuks delivers.

The menu features house-made sauces, fragrant curries, and standout dishes like the red pumpkin curry and pineapple fried rice—served in a hollowed pineapple for extra flair.

The blend of warm spices, tangy fruit, and a hint of sweetness makes every bite unforgettable.

Myung Ga

When only Korean comfort food will satisfy, this spot in West Valley needs to be on your list.

The banchan spread shines—especially the sesame-scented broccoli and crisp, tangy cucumbers—and the bibimbap is always a winner.

For something heartier, try the jjigae, a rich tomato-based stew with tofu, pork, and kimchi that’s both comforting and full of flavor without feeling too heavy.

Bucket O’ Crawfish

Bucket O’ Crawfish isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a full-blown celebration.

With plastic-covered tables, graffiti-splashed walls, and bibs that double as party gear, this spot turns seafood night into an event.

Grab a bag of steaming crab and mussels, dive into crispy calamari with fried jalapeños and onions, and don’t hold back on the sauce—go for the “crazy mix” of lemon pepper, Cajun, and garlic butter. It’s messy, loud, and ridiculously fun… just the way it should be.
