Pie & Beer Day

30+ events, cool dinosaurs, and weekly deals

Happy Tuesday Hive Members!

It’s a special week in Utah even if you aren’t LDS. There’s a ton of fun surrounding pioneer day, and a way to celebrate how you want. We’re covering one special event in particular and a cool update on a special local dino.

Also don’t miss a new section addition this week called “weekly deals”. I’ll be doing some research on local deals and sending them your way!

Let’s get to it.

In this week’s Hive:

  • Pie and Beer Fun

  • Super Rare Dino

  • Weekly Deals

  • This week’s events

Pie & Beer Fun

I remember when I first moved to Utah years ago how confused I was to see fireworks going off like crazy on the 24th of July. Once I understood that it was a holiday unique to Utah I thought why not celebrate in some way. It’s almost like getting a second mini July 4th.

One of the most famous ways to celebrate the 24th in a “non-traditional” way is with Pie & Beer Day.

It’s exactly what it sounds like. More pie than you could ever eat and more beer than you could ever drink. There will be 20 different bakeries + breweries and over 8,000 slices of pie in attendance.

If you’re feeling a bit more active make sure to get in on the kickball tournament this year. The whole event is being hosted at Smith’s Ballpark, the perfect setting to play some kickball among other activities.

I know the name “Pie & Beer” may not suggest it very well but this is a super relaxed, family friendly event. There will be root beer for kids and plenty of food trucks if pie isn’t your thing. Check it out!

Super Rare Dino

One of the most interesting parts of Utah is its rich fossil history. Not to mention rare fossils, like really rare ones.

Usually on display at a Thanksgiving Point Museum in Lehi the Ceratosaurus is a 150 million year old dinosaur that kinda looks like my favorite (the velociraptor).

There’s one huge difference about this guy though. There’s only four full fossils known to exist on earth, which means of course it was going to fetch a crazy price when finally sold.

That time came just last week when the Lehi museum sold the fossil for $30.5 million dollars making it the 3rd most expensive dinosaur fossil sale in history.
